People often want to know where to start with the four elements and magic. I say start paying attention to the elemental energies in your daily life and go from there.
Problems or opportunities will arise. If you have studied the elemental codex you will be able to classify these issues by their elemental nature and respond accordingly. In the beginning the simplest way to respond to life, to use the magic of the elements, is to find where you are lacking the strengths of an element and apply more of the lacking energy.
Earth Energy is Stability and Endurance
For example, let's say you have trouble sticking with long-running projects or struggle to stay on task when trying to get something done. It's a common ailment. People get bored, they get tired from concentration, they think they would rather be doing something other than what's in front of them.
We might call such an issue an imbalance of water energy, causing one to drift and be unstable. Or perhaps an excess of elemental air, if a person is spaced out, flighty, and cannot make themself be still and focus for any amount of time.
I see a lot of people approach magic with an interest but never get started. I also see many people who do get started becoming distracted by all the information on the topic; they are unable to stick with one thing at a time and want to jump around from topic to topic.
This is the path to failure and heartache. If you are unable to stay on a topic until you learn it before moving on to find something new, you will not succeed with magical practice.
Let's run with this example for now, even if it doesn't apply to you.
The Magical Path is Long and Winding
Magical practice is either a long game or a waste of time. You simply have to be prepared to spend significant time learning, coming to understand, and getting hands-on experience with the Art.
That's if your intention is to effectively use magic within your life.
Not everyone has this goal but I will assume you do because you've read this far into the article. The drifters and flighty types have moved on to another article if not returned to Google to query "black magic" or "demon magic" or some other topic they think will be exciting.
The Power of Elemental Earth Could be a Good Anchor for Beginner Magicians
I'll be honest. When I got started looking into magic I had the attention span of a gnat and the discipline of a toddler who was raised by wolves. My future as a magician was anything but bright.
Then I realized the anchor I needed was right in front of me. Actually it was within me as well, and the same is true for you.
Use this simple magical operation to anchor yourself into the subject of magic, give yourself the staying power to settle into the long haul, and generate the patient resolve needed for successful magic studies.
As you'll see below and with ongoing exercises and operations I post, magical work begins with an intention, frame of mind, and attitude of action towards your objective. Before you utter the first word of an incantation or light a candle you must set your mind to the task of becoming what you desire or put plans in motion to get what you want.
There is almost always a mundane component of intention, planning, and action towards your goal, which is then bolstered and empowered through the magical work.
Earth Anchor for the Long Haul Project
This magic can either be enacted in a quiet room or an outdoor setting where you can sit on the ground or stand with bare feet on a grass or stone surface. What matters is that you are undisturbed, comfortable, feeling totally safe and have as much time as you want available for the work.
It's a simple process that will focus your mind and energy matrix, ground an intention, then anchor that intent into your core and your future with magical forces. Read through the working a few times and memorize the steps, then set and take the time do enact the work.
Do not browse the operation as you read this post and imagine that is enough. Get real with me here and now:
- Learn the operation; will take 20 or 30 minutes.
- Choose a time.
- Execute the work.
About the Timing
You could do this operation as soon as you memorize the steps and are ready if you like. Other good times are sunrise (fresh start) midnight (serious, transitional) and when elemental earth is in its course any time during the day.
1. Setting Intention
Your goal is to settle into your magic studies with patience, determination to succeed, stability and the ability to work at this long-term to get it right. Or something like this, right? State this very clearly to yourself.
1b. Relax Into the Moment
Let the tension go, relax completely for a moment.
Then take a deep breath; let it out.
Relax one more time to make sure you nailed it down.
1c. Settle Your Intent Onto the Target
Think about your magic studies and what you wish to accomplish as a student of the Art. Don't fuss over details just shift your thoughts there and allow your natural resonance to emerge. Put another way, settle your mind on the feelings or images that to you mean studying and learning and practicing magic.
For me this was a particular old book with brown, yellowed pages and the smell of those pages. This thought or image brought further impressions like certain incense smells, candlelight, symbols like the spiral and tree of life, and others.
Think of whatever it is you think about to generate that ringing, mysterious, exciting sensation you associate with practicing magic. Dwell in this thought space and feeling zone a moment.
Get yourself in a positive state and be truly happy that you are going to anchor into your magical path and achieve all that you want to achieve as a student of magic. Pre-emptively celebrate your success because you are going to be successful.
1d. Conjure Elemental Earth and Direct it Towards Your Task
We'll keep it simple and use a two-step process. Step one, draw the symbol to raise earth energy and step two use the same symbol to direct the energy.
ONE: Draw the alchemical triangle for elemental earth (below). This is usually green, but there are other colors corresponding to earth. Mae your triangle a deep brown to signify heavy energy for anchoring.
TWO: Focus on the lower point of the triangle and mentally direct the elemental currents through that point downward into the foundation of your intention where they will support your magical effort and anchor your person and your future into the long-term commitment of magical studies.
Example mental command: I draw the earth quality through the downward point and into my magical outcome. Make my will heavy and undeniable, and anchor me into the long haul of my magical study and practice. I will be unshakeable with your support.
2. Aligning Your Energetic Matrix
This means to align your subtle energies, like your aura and the energies the chakras generate and regulate -- the mojo you focus int magical work -- towards the objective at hand.
Close your eyes and relax.
2b. Ignite the Charge
Say Cha-NG. (Chah sound, deep and forceful, then NGNGNG, extending the "ng" sound a few seconds.)
This sound ignites your focused intent and/or vital force and elevates your energy. It is a fiery toneme and potent vocable. You only need one of these but are free to intone more if you like.
2c. Embody the Power of the Earth Element
Settle your shoulders and hips; let the tension go and sink your weight down your straight spine into your base chakra. This is at the bottom of your spine below the bottom of your lowest vertabrae.
Your perinium which is essentially the space under your pelvis between your genitals and your anus is the resting point of your base chakra. Some people find it in their lower genitalia and others sense it in the middle of their pelvis but those spots do not anchor right for me.
Find your base chakra, which resonates with and channels elemental earth energy and say "Uhhhh."
That's the schwa sound or the short "u" in "mud" or "stub", as deep as you can go and extended. Repeat the sound and use it to settle into your base chakra.
Don't merely find and give attention to your base chakra. That would work if you only wanted to increase the circulation of earth energy. Here you conjure and command the earth element, but only after you embody it. You should feel as though your frame is resting atop the base chakra, like the energy center is what holds your frame up.
Again: "Uhhhh." This time follow with "DO", so "Uhhhh-DO" (as in "go" and "below" and extended for four or more counts).
Repeat "Uhhhh-DO" four times, sinking into your base more deeply with each repetition.
By the third repetition you should inhabit your base chakra; that is, you should feel as though you are inside of that energy center. At the end of four cycles of Uhhhh-DO you should feel encased in your base chakra to the extent that you really feel if you opened your eyes you would see the world from within your base chakra.
3. Use Elemental Earth to Anchor You Into the Long-Term Process
Keep your eyes closed.
3b. Drive the Magical Anchoring Stakes into Your Objective
Chant four times: "Uhd-G-RU".
This is the same uh sound, shorter with a hard "d" like "da" at the end, then a heavy "guh" followed by a heavily pronounced "r" and extended, long "u" (as in "you" and "true").
So these four vocables are each: Uhh-da-(half second space)-Guh-ru (extended like holding the end of "you" a few seconds. As you sound these four return your thoughts to your magical practice for the long term.
As you sound each repetition imagine driving a massive, heavy, tall iron stake into the ground of your magic studies and anchoring your being securely and immovably into your study of magic ongoing. See the stakes go deep not only into the scenario of your involvement with your studies but also deep into the future and holding you steadily for years to come.
3c. Seal the Magical Effect into Reality
Finish the operation with this incantation:
"Stable and steadfast, solidly set into my studies.
Sturdy and substantial are the stakes I have secured.
Unmoving I stay. For the long haul I remain.
Anchored as a fixture until my fulfillment is ordained.
Spirits and forces of elemental earth construct this reality and cement my will to be!"
After all the set up and energy channeling and visualization leading up to the incantation, if you project your will through these words and sing them with a victorious heart your goal will be as good as met unless you simply decide you wish to fail at some point down the road.
